Hendrickje Ewen

My thirty years in the makeup industry was inspired by a love of cinema, dreams of working on a movie set, and discovering my God-given natural talent!

I grew up in Northern England watching my father, an artist and teacher, create fine ceramics and oil paintings. I found myself experimenting in pencil drawing, painting, and textile art, spending many hours in the high school art room & on the potter’s wheel & easel at home.

At eighteen, I moved to London, and loved strolling alone through the Tate Modern & Victoria & Albert museum on days off. I took frequent visits to the Picasso museum, Miro’s studio, and the Gaudi park while in Barcelona. Also ventured to the Musèe d’Orsay, Rodin gardens and Versailles while in Paris gathering inspiration & knowledge.

My love for makeup came from seeing fashion magazines on shelves and sitting in the bookstore browsing the pages that jumped out at me. No one I knew wore makeup, but I got a feeling when I saw creations from Kevin Aucoin and the amazing Rick Baker that that's what I wanted to do!

I decided to enroll in a makeup school that included special effects. I made head casts, sculpted prosthetic pieces, used foam latex and greasepaint! I was hooked and knew I made the right choice. I trained in film, television, stage makeup, and special effects under the instruction of Neill Gordon at Brushstroke Makeup School in the UK

Not long after attending makeup school I decided to visit my best friend in Florida and 30 years later I’m still here!

I pursued volunteer work in theaters, festivals, TV stations, and even took jobs teaching special effects makeup to college students that I was definitely not qualified for! But it fed my passion and I grew in speaking roles and teaching.

Eventually after having two children, I fell Into retail cosmetics. I gained monumental amounts of experience in the beauty industry, including ten years as a MAC Cosmetics makeup artist. This had a significant impact on my skills and talent for beauty makeup and became another realm for me to master. I love to make people feel good about how they look and help them to gain confidence and feel beautiful! I want to help people enhance their natural beauty. And subsequently, mixing beauty and special effects makeup, body painting, and costume work became my new passion. Accomplishments in my field have often come with designing character makeup for many Halloween events and personal creative projects.

I am blessed enough to have a career that I love and enjoy! My ultimate passion is creating organic stylized photo shoots that have never been done before and create magic in collaborations with like minded artists so we all bring each other’s talents to life!

Outside of working I have continued my love of fitness, including success as Sportswoman of the Year all through high school in track & field and field hockey. Nowadays, I do strength training, yoga, and biking! When I'm not working, you can often find me at the gym or the beach.
